Austrian IR 44 - Wagram, 1809

Regiment of the Day

Today we look at the heroic Austrian Infantrie Regiment Nr 44, who fought as part of Nordman's Advanced Guard Division at Wagram, 1809.

3 bases of line infantry, figures by Warrior miniatures "Austrian Line advancing - in shako".

All Austrian line regiments during this battle have only 2 distinguishing features - the facing colour, and the trousers. Facing colours for this regiment are .... red, and the trousers are white, being a 'German' regiment. "Hungarian' regiments have light blue trousers with prominent embroidery on the front.

I have gone for a little variety on the drum for this unit - the drum body is in regimental facing colour, with brass trim and yellow tensioning ropes. Something a little different in a sea of white.

It is worth noting that with the Austrian flags ... although they all look the same, there are actually 3 different variations for the double headed eagle crest.

The outline of the eagle is similar in all cases, but the minor details inside the crest can differ depending on the date of issue.

Nice figures, easy to paint and get on the table.

One of my earlier attempts at marking the underside of the base ... have a look at the newer iterations for the new improved version ... much nicer !
